Balayage – sun-kissed, low-maintenance colour in Brighton

Want bright, natural-looking dimension without harsh lines? Balayage is a French freehand technique where we paint light exactly where it flatters you most. The blend is softer at the roots and brighter through the mid-lengths and ends, so the grow-out is seamless and easy to maintain.

Why clients love it

  • Natural, multi-tonal effect that looks good in every light
  • Softer regrowth than traditional foils, so appointments can be spaced out
  • Bespoke placement to suit your face shape, haircut and lifestyle
  • Works on all base colours, lengths and textures

What to expect

  • Consultation: We choose placement and tone (creamy blonde, beige, caramel, mocha, copper or bronde).
  • Freehand lightening: Painted sections for brightness where you want it most, often with wrap or film for control.
  • Tone & gloss: A toner perfects your shade and a gloss adds mirror-like shine.
  • Timing: Please allow 2–4 hours, depending on starting colour, length and thickness.
  • Location: Friendly Kemptown salon with easy links from Brighton Marina, North Laine and Hove.

Maintenance & home care

  • Top up the face-frame or money-piece every 8–12 weeks; full refresh typically 12–20 weeks.
  • Refresh tone with a gloss/toner every 6–8 weeks to keep brass at bay.
  • Use bond care, sulphate-free shampoo, colour-safe conditioner and heat protection; rinse with lukewarm water.

Good to know A patch test is required 48 hours before colour services or if it has been more than six months since your last test.

Lovely salon with friendly staff. Evie did a great job on my hair - cut and colour - a few weeks ago. It still looks great! Thanks.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is balayage different from highlights?
Balayage is painted freehand for a softer blend and gentler regrowth; foils give precise, higher-contrast lift.
Will I need a toner?
Yes. Toning refines your shade (cool, creamy or warm) and neutralises brass for a polished finish.
How often is maintenance?
Face-frame every 8–12 weeks and a full refresh 12–20 weeks, with gloss top-ups 6–8 weeks.
Does balayage work on dark hair?
Absolutely. We can create caramel, mocha or bronde tones, or build brightness across a couple of sessions for hair health.
Can it be combined with a cut or money-piece?
Yes. Many clients pair balayage with a haircut and a brighter money-piece for extra pop around the face.
